As highly sensitive and sentient beings, horses make the perfect partners for practicing awareness, emotional regulation, congruence (aligning the mind and body) and relating – for children and adults alike. We can bring our experience with the herd back to our homes, classroom and workplaces, transforming the way we self-regulate, connect with others, and lead.
Being in nature, and experiencing heart resonance with horses. Evidence, such as the journal article by Colin A Capaldi, et. al. Flourishing in Nature: A review of the benefits of connecting with nature and its application as a wellbeing intervention from the International Journal of Wellbeing, suggests that “connecting with nature is one path to flourishing in life”.
According to Heartmath Facilitator and University of Arizona professor Ann Baldwin, PhD, there is now research that supports what was once only anecdotal evidence, that being present with horses allows humans to “attain a balanced harmonious state of being.” For more on Dr. Baldwin’s research, please view this webinar “Heart to Heart Communication with Horses”. Dr. Baldwin’s research uses heart rate variability via EKG to measure the impact on Heart Rate Variability when humans and horses are present with one another in a facilitated experience.
Creating art for the sake of expression has many incredible benefits, including lowering cortisol (the stress hormone), increasing confidence and self-esteem, developing problem solving skills, and bringing quality to one's life at any stage. In an Equine Assisted Art Therapy session, art making is a central part, offering support to integrate the experiences from the session with therapy goals.
This will provide an opportunity to get to know one another and discover if Equine Assisted Art Therapy is a good fit.

I am a certification candidate with the Professional Association of Equine Facilitated Wellness (PRO-EFW) in the Human Services Specialist (HSS) stream.
I am a Professional Art Therapist (DCiiAT, CATA, OATA) and Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), specializing through additional training in working with Neurodivergent populations, specifically Autism and ADHD. Additionally, I am a Certified WISE Equine Assisted Life Coach and a Simplicity Parenting Discipline and Guidance Course Provider.
I have been working with horses, learning theory (online learning through University of Guelph and Healing Hooves) and applying knowledge though practice (riding lessons, lead and side walker for a local Therapeutic Riding program, and mentorship with a FEEL Certified Practitioner and the WISE Equine Assisted Coaching community) for the past five years. In October 2021 I began to lease my own horse, and purchased that same horse in June of 2022, and added two more horses to my herd in the fall of 2022. I cared for and lived on site with all three horses from 2023-2025, providing 24/7 horse care and training, as well as Equine Assisted Coaching and Learning. Over the past 5 years, I have acquired around 3000 hours of horse experience, and completed a certificate in Equine Facility Management from the University of Guelph. I am currently a member in good standing with Ontario Equestrian and PRO-EFW.
I am currently a certification candidate with PRO-EFW and plan to complete registration in the field of Equine Facilitated Wellness within the Human Services Specialist stream in 2026.
